Photo from Monroe’s past: When snow fell, Church Street became the domain of sledders

In times past, snow and sledding were major components of winter in Monroe. In the late 1940s, Church Street, shown below, often was closed to traffic after it snowed and became the domain of children.

Streetlights made it possible for sledding parties to take place at night.
