Edward J. Mackey

Edward J. Mackey, 85, of Monroe, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 11, 2013 at Bridgeport Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy Hein Mackey for 64 years.

He was born on December 18, 1927, son of Stanley Mackey and Mary Okruch Mackey.

Ed was the proud owner and operator of E. Mackey & Sons, Inc. of Newtown for the past four decades. His life passion was for heavy excavation equipment, which showed as he operated his rubber tire loader to the very end. He was a lifetime member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Monroe.

In addition to his loving wife Dorothy, whom he truly admired, he is survived by daughter Joyce Gabianelli and her husband Bill of Monroe. Son, Sonny Mackey and his wife Corki of Newtown. Son, Richard Mackey and his wife Diana of Sandy Hook. Daughters Donna Mackey of Monroe and Peggy Uhde and her husband Bill of Newtown and daughter in law Melody Mackey Bartomeli.

He was predeceased by a Son, Bill Mackey.

He has eight loving grandchildren, Jim Gabianelli, Bill Mackey, Melissa Tartaglia, Cara Mackey, Garrett and Robert Uhde, Jenny and Kristina Qubick. Step grandchildren Greg and Anthony Gruce and great granddaughter Mikayla Mackey.

Ed leaves behind two loving sisters, Florence Pleban of Trumbull and Frances Smarkusz of Bridgeport and a brother James Mackey of Stratford.

He was predeased by a brother Teddy Mackey.

In addition, many loving extended family and friends all of which he cherished, one specifically, Life long friend Anthony “Abie” Passaro and wife Shirley of Trumbull. He will be deeply missed by all, and forever in our hearts.

Funeral Services were held Wednesday, January 16th at 10:00 AM in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 466 Elm Street, Monroe. Interment was in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Newtown. Spadaccino & Leo P.Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, handled arrangements.
