Photo from Monroe’s past: Playing croquet in a Fan Hill Road yard

Below, women play croquet near a saltbox house on Fan Hill Road (still standing) built by Hobart Beardsley in a photo circa 1870.

The image was given to the Monroe Historical Society by a descendent of Hobart Beardsley, a cousin of the James Walker Beardsley of Monroe who gave the land that became Beardsley Park to Bridgeport.

The photo was one of two views of the scene that, when looked at through a stereopticon scope, appeared to be in 3D.
