Vavrek to unveil proposed new budget on Feb. 11

State Vavrek

First Selectman Steve Vavrek

First Selectman Stephen J. Vavrek will release his proposed 2013-14 budget at a public hearing Monday, Feb. 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the Masuk High School library. Vavrek will make a presentation on his spending priorities and the tax implications, and take questions from the public, who are welcome to attend the meeting.

The Board of Education has requested a 3.7% spending increase, and Vavrek has yet to indicate how much the town side of the budget might increase. The school budget makes up about two-thirds of the overall budget. This year’s budget referendum will take place Tuesday, April 2.

Note: An item published in the newspaper had incorrectly said the presentation would take Town Hall council chambers. This is where it has traditionally been held, but the location is being moved this year so it can be shown on the local public-access cable TV station.
