Due to the impending snowstorm, the town’s monthly oil recycling scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 9 has been canceled by the Monroe Public Works Department. It was to take place at the Highway Department’s town garage on Purdy Hill Road. The next drop-off date will be March 9.
The town’s Garder Road landfill also will be closed Friday and Saturday due to the weather. Public works officials apologize for any inconvenience caused by the changes.
During a major snowstorm, all public works personnel are needed to operate snowplows and handle related responsibilities.
About the monthly recycling sessions
At the recycling drop-offs, held on the second Saturday of each month from 8 to 11:45 a.m., Monroe residents may drop off used motor oil (and filters), vehicle batteries and anti-freeze free of charge at the town garage, 447 Purdy Hill Road. Proof of residency is required. The dropped-off items are recycled by the town.
