Photo from Monroe’s past: Clearing the snow in the old days

HistPeppSnowA horse-drawn snowplow moves south on Pepper Street, toward Old Newtown Road, after a big snowstorm in 1930.  The utility poles trailing away in the distance are running aside the Housatonic Railway to the north — today’s rail trail.

The hill rising in the distance in the middle, behind the main utility pole, is Bugg Hill. This photo was donated by the Fagan family of Pepper Street.
