Registrars hold county-wide meeting

The Monroe registrars of voters and their deputies hosted a meeting of the Fairfield County Registrars Association (ROVAC) on Thursday, Dec. 4, at the Edith Wheeler Memorial Library.

More than 40 registrars and deputies attended the event. Discussions included any issues that may have arisen at the Nov. 4 gubernatorial election. Electronic poll books were listed as one way to cut down any wait-times that some voters may have incurred during the election.

A new plan to train and certify registrars using an eight-module education process was also discussed A committee composed of a variety of members of state agencies and registrars is currently working on the process.

In addition, registrars discussed legislation to address election issues such as EDR (Election Day Registration) and minority party vote distribution. The handicapped voting system was felt by many to need upgrading to afford better voter privacy and ease of use. This issue will require further study.

Fairfield County ROVAC meetings take place on a bi-monthly basis with the next meeting scheduled for mid-February.
