Double debit fraud: Two residents, same street, same unauthorized charges

policelogosmallTwo residents living in different homes on Turkey Roost Road contacted police to report unauthorized transactions on their debit cards. Both involved small purchases in northeast Georgia made with cards from the same Connecticut-based bank.

On Jan. 22, a woman said her bank notified her of the fraudulent charges. A $75 purchase was made at a service station with convenience store in Hephziban, Ga., and a $70 charge was made at a service station with convenience store in Waynesboro, Ga.

The woman said the card had never been out of her possession. The bank agreed to eliminate the charges from her account.

On Jan. 25, a man told police there had been two fraudulent charges made with his debt card. They were both for $75 on Jan. 22 at a service station with convenience store in Waynesboro, Ga.

The bank also told the man the charges would be eliminated from his account.

The two victims are not related to each other and live about 1.3 miles apart on the same road.
