Letter: Stevens for Board of Education

To the Editor:

I am writing this letter on behalf of my brother, Jerry Stevens, who is running for the Monroe Board of Education. We are both proud, lifelong Monroe residents and received our education here.

Letter-to-the-Editor2-FI-300x180Jerry retired from the Monroe school system after 34 incredible years as the wood shop teacher. He started his career in 1979 at Chalk Hill and moved to Jockey Hollow once it was completed.

As a matter of fact, the layout of the Technology Education Lab at Jockey Hollow was created by my brother, and in 2005 the Connecticut Technology Association honored his Jockey Hollow lab by awarding it Program of the Year.

Throughout his career, with more than 20,000 students taught, Jerry constantly strived to offer our students the best education possible. He represented our school system on many Monroe committees, including our Technology, STEM and Curriculum committees. Jerry gave Monroe an important voice serving on numerous state committees, including Computer, STEM, and Curriculum committees. He served on the executive board of the Connecticut Technology Education Association for 30 years and was state president for six years.

There is no doubt that Jerry dedicated himself to Monroe’s education system with his past service and looks forward to giving back to the education system that has given him so much. Please give Jerry Stevens your vote on Nov. 3 so that he may continue to serve our community, as a Board of Education member.
