Sredzinski backs Shaban

To the editor:

While most of the media focus has been on the Presidential election this year, Monroe faces a very interesting election in who represents our town in the U.S. House of Representatives. Republican State Representative John Shaban is running to unseat the incumbent Democrat who has been there since 2008 and John has earned my support for numerous reasons.

John Shaban rejects the “it’s us versus them” approach that has frozen our federal government and has reduced Congress to a standstill. During his tenure in Hartford, John has performed as a common-sense Republican — fighting for fiscal sanity, local control and individual rights — all while respecting the fact that his Democratic colleagues may not always agree with him. Our representatives are elected to solve problems and to promote freedom through prosperity — needless bickering does neither. John has demonstrated an ability to build consensus when needed, and hold the line when necessary, all without surrendering his core beliefs.

I have witnessed firsthand as John Shaban the legislator goes to work on the floor of the State House; he is a tireless representative for his district. He is extremely knowledgeable in Constitutional Law and has had numerous debates with opponents attempting to introduce legislation that is bad for Connecticut. I am confident he will bring that same passion as a Congressman to Connecticut’s fourth district.

John Shaban believes in local control, he believes that decisions should be made closer to home. That means keeping the bureaucracy of Washington DC out of our local decisions on education, transportation and public safety.

Most people would agree that Washington DC is dysfunctional at best — and if we are going to change the way Washington operates we need to change the people we send there. As a result, I am proud to support State Representative John Shaban for Congress.

State Rep. JP Sredzinski
