Big storm could bring up to two feet of snow tonight into Saturday

Snowplow FeatureA winter storm watch is in effect for Northern Fairfield County and Northern New Haven County from Friday afternoon through Saturday afternoon with the potential for heavy snow, sleet and freezing rain, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow accumulation of 18 to 24 inches along with around a tenth of an inch of ice is forecast.

Winds from the north at 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph, are possible. Temperatures are forecast in the upper 20s with visibility of one quarter mile or less at times..

Heavy snow and freezing rain will make for dangerous driving conditions. In addition the heavy snow and strong winds could result in near blizzard conditions, bring down some tree limbs and cause scattered power outages.

A winter storm watch means there is a potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact travel.
