Fire marshall investigates house fire

Monroe Fire Marshal Bill Davin said he is investigating the cause of Tuesday evening’s fire.

Monroe Volunteer Firefighters were called to a residence on Twinbrook Terrace after the residents reported smoke in the house on Nov. 15. Firefighters arrived and found an active fire in the basement which was quickly extinguished. Three dogs were found unconscious from the smoke on the main living floor and were carried out by firefighters who, along with police officers, tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate them.

The owners had broken a glass sliding door to attempt to rescue the dogs, but the smoke was too heavy to make entry.

Additional firefighters from the Stepney, Stevenson and Shelton were called in to fight the fire. There were roughly 40 firefighters in and eight fire trucks at the scene.
The house sustained fire and water damage in the basement and significant smoke damage in the living areas. The house is repairable but cannot be inhabited at this time.
