Panthers still seeking elusive win

Masuk High still needs one more victory to earn a spot in the state playoffs, after Stratford High came to Monroe and left town with a 60-37 SWC boys basketball victory on Thursday night.
The Panthers (7-10) will visit New Fairfield Tuesday, host Newtown on Friday, Feb. 15, and visit Weston High on Tuesday, Feb. 19.
Dominic Migliaro scored nine points, Dan Cahill eight and the recently returned Matt Gerak had nine markers for Masuk.
It was still a game at the half, as Stratford held a 33-26 lead. The Red Devils followed a 9-1 run to open the third period with an 11-6 spurt that took the score to 53-33 at the break.
Bernard Brantley scored 21 points and Marcus Vereen had 16 for Stratford (9-7).
