With two games left in the regular season, the Masuk High girls basketball team can breathe a little easier.

The Panthers clinched a berth in the Class L state tournament by getting their eighth victory of the season Tuesday night, beating Brookfield, 57-50, in Monroe.

Masuk trailed 14-13 at the end of the first quarter but then outscored Brookfield, 21-11, in the second period to take a 34-25 halftime lead. Brookfield got within five points, 45-40, going into the final quarter, but the Panthers were able to hold on for the triumph.

Bri Craig, Isabella Migliano and Gabby Beckett all had big games for Masuk, which is now 8-10 overall this season. Craig poured in 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds; Migliaro added 15 points and made four steals; and Beckett contributed nine points and six assists.

Emily Rentz (six) and Sammie Schiebe (four) combined for 10 more points, and Kaitlyn Infante rounded out the Masuk scoring with two points.

Lindsey Zeleski had a team-high 14 points for Brookfield, which fell to 5-13 this season. The setback also ended the Bobcats’ chances of qualifying for the state tournament.
