Monroe schools have two-hour delay tomorrow

The following message was sent by school Superintendent John Battista earlier this evening.

I want to give you an update on the status of our schools. I met with the Monroe’s Emergency Management Team and Eversource three times today to get as much information as possible. Two of our three schools without power are scheduled to have power restored, but Eversource has no estimation of power restoration for the third school without power.

There will be no school activities tonight due to the number of road closures and power outages.

Due to anticipated ongoing storm response coordination efforts, the Saturday Morning Conversation with the superintendent and first selectman scheduled for this Saturday is being postponed to a later date.

At the very least, we will have a two-hour delay tomorrow, Friday, March 9, to give Eversource as much time as possible to restore power and for our town crew to continue the road clean up. We will make an announcement tomorrow morning at 7 a.m. if schools need to be closed.

Thank you for your understanding during this challenging weather event.
