Rec news: Summer Fun Days Camp sign-ups underway

Aqua Cycle class

Aqua Cycling is a spinning class and aqua aerobics class rolled into one. It offers not only fitness benefits, such as a 600 to 900 calories per hour burned, but also healing and rehabilitative effects. Water shoes and bathing suits are required. This is offered Mondays and Wednesdays at Masuk Pool from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. Session 7 is Mondays, May 7 to June 4 (no class May 28) or Wednesdays, May 9 to May 30. The fee is $70 resident/$80 non-resident.

Summer Fun Days Camp — Early bird rate until April 30

Registration has started for Summer Fun Days Camp, and the early bird rate in effect until April 30. This camp is geared for youngsters entering pre-K through ninth grade and runs eight weeks from June 25 through Aug. 17 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. with extended day sessions available. All programs will allow you to register on a weekly basis to offer more flexibility in scheduling. Playmates also has half-day and full-day options. Whether your Fun Days are for Playmates (pre-K through first grade), Kids (grades 2 through 5) or Adventure Fun Days for Tweens (grades 6 through 9), we will have something special in store. Panther sports camps

For all Panther sports camps, print out a registration form at www.MonroeRec.org and follow registration instructions.

Panthers Girls Basketball School — Camp for girls in grades 4 to 9 features daily skills breakdowns, contests and awards. Drills will be focused on improving player’s fundamental skills and teaching them how to play within a team concept. Daily games are grouped by age and ability. Camp will be held July 23 to 27 at the Masuk High gym from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fees are $175 for the first participant and $145 for each additional family member.

Panther Cheer Camp – For girls ages 5 to 14. This is a four-day instructional camp where campers will receive expert instruction from experienced high school coaches and cheerleaders. Emphasis will be placed on the basics of stunting, dance, jumps, cheers and tumbling. Our goal is to teach the fundamentals of cheerleading in a positive, safe and fun environment. Participants will be taught in small groups each day. Additionally, camp participants will learn cheers and perform a routine for spectators on the final day of camp. Camp is held at Masuk High School outer baseball field and cafeteria on July 9 to 12 from 9 a.m. to noon. Panther Hoop Camp – For boys entering grades 4 to 9. This camp is designed to promote interest and skill development in the game of basketball. The goal is to improve each player’s fundamentals (shooting, dribbling, passing, rebounding, individual and team defense, plus offensive moves from the post and the perimeter). Session 1 is June 25 to 29. Session 2 is July 9 to 13. Both sessions will be at Masuk High from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fees are $175 per session ($30 off for additional week or child).  For more information, contact Pete Szklarz at 508.843.8883 or [email protected]

Pee Wee Basketball Camp – For boys and girls entering grades 2 to 3. This is an instructional camp designed to promote interest and skill development in basketball. The goal is to improve each player’s fundamentals (shooting, passing, ball handling, offensive and defensive skills). Session 1 is June 25 to 29. Session 2 is July 9 to 13.
