Students go ‘old school’

Vic Casaretti plays the schoolmaster for the Monroe Historical Society’s reenactment of classroom life in the Colonial one-room schoolhouse as it was in 1818, complete with old style quill pens and tablets made of ox horn. Upwards of 200 grade two students from Monroe’s three elementary schools took part in the society’s annual spring presentation. The venue was the Old Schoolhouse on Tannery Road (circa 1790), one of three historic buildings the society has preserved in Monroe.
