Monroe police log: June 18-28

The Monroe Police Department responded to 45 alarms, 48 medical emergencies and five unknown 911 calls between June 18 and June 28.

Monday, June 18

6:03 a.m. — A Cutlers Farm Road resident reported observing a black bear in her yard. The incident was referred to the animal control officer.

8:32 a.m. — A Cottage Street resident reported observing a black bear in his yard. The incident was referred to the animal control officer.

2:16 p.m. — Police responded to a two-vehicle, head-on collision on Purdy Hill Road and Route 111. Minor injuries were reported.

9:20 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a vehicle being struck by a falling tree, which led to the roadway being blocked on Stanley Road. No injuries were reported.

Tuesday, June 19

7:12 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a motorcycle accident with injuries on Elm Street and West Maiden Lane. The rider was transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital with a minor wrist injury.

Wednesday, June 20

2:27 a.m. — Danielle Lengyel, 43, of Stratford, was arrested on a warrant on charges of fourth-degree larceny, receipt of goods, money or services obtained by illegal use of a credit card, and illegal use of a credit card. Police said the charges stem from a situation in which Lengyel hired a private investigator and, after receiving the investigator’s report, used her husband’s credit card to pay the individual. Since Lengyel’s name was not on the credit card, police said charges were filed and a warrant was issued for her arrest. Stratford police picked up Lengyel and brought her to Monroe police headquarters. Lengyel posted a $495 bond and was scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on June 28.

Thursday, June 21

4:34 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a motorcycle accident in front of Benedict’s Home & Garden, 480 Purdy Hill Road. Minor injuries were reported.

Friday, June 22

12:41 p.m. — Police are investigating a reported burglary at a Turkey Roost Road home. The homeowner told police someone entered the residence earlier and items are missing.

Saturday, June 23

10:12 p.m. — A physical altercation in the Sunoco parking lot off Route 111 led to the arrest of a Bridgeport couple. Sasha P. McBean, 30, and Everton Fletcher, 28, were each arrested for second-degree breach of peace. Each were released on a $500 bond and were scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on June 25.

Sunday, June 24

5:22 p.m. — Police responded to a two-vehicle accident on Route 111 near Route 34. No injuries were reported.

5:22 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a vehicle off the roadway on Route 111. No injuries were reported.

9:37 p.m. — A domestic dispute which turned physical between father and his adult son led to the arrest of the father, Roy Attila Collins, 54, of Meadowview Terrace. Collins was charged with disorderly conduct. He posted a $500 bond and appeared in Bridgeport Superior Court the next day.

Monday, June 25

8:28 a.m. — Two women were arrested for stealing candy from Cumberland Farms on Route 25. Police were called to the scene by a store employee, claiming that two females had been taking candy without paying, and the pair were later talking to the store manager in front of the establishment. The incident led to the arrest of Caitlin Maureen Saparato, 29, of Danbury, and Denise Angela Moore, 58, of Danbury, on charges of sixth-degree larceny. Both were released on a promise to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on July 5.

Tuesday, June 26

8:15 a.m. — Police responded to a two-vehicle accident on Route 25. No injuries were reported.

12:32 p.m. — A Trumbull woman turned herself into police headquarters after learning of a warrant for her arrest on a host charges stemming from a motor vehicle accident in the roundabout after which police state she fled the scene. Yazmine Rodriguez, 19, was charged with following too closely in a utility or construction zone, evading responsibility in a utility or construction zone, and operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license. She was released on a $5,000 court-set bond and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on July 5.

1:48 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a cable wire down on a truck blocking the roadway on Pepper Street. No injuries were reported.

3:46 p.m. — Police responded to a two-vehicle accident in the Century Plaza parking lot off Route 111. No injuries were reported.

Wednesday, June 27

1:37 p.m. — A resident reported observing a moose on Route 25. The incident was referred to the animal control officer.

3:41 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a domestic dispute at a home on Route 25 that led to one arrest.

7:31 p.m. — A resident reported observing a black bear in his yard on Bagburn Road. He stated that the bear was in his driveway, then walked across the street. The incident was referred to the animal control officer.

7:44 p.m. — A person reported observing a black bear in a backyard of a property on Route 111. The incident was referred to the animal control officer.

9:56 p.m. — An Old Zoar Road resident reported observing a black bear on his deck. The incident was referred to the animal control officer.

Thursday, June 28

2:30 a.m. — Police responded to a report of a one-vehicle accident at Stevenson Dam on Route 34, but when officers arrived, no driver could be found. K9 units were brought in to search the area, and Oxford police were on scene as well, according to Monroe police, but no one was found. The accident left a guardrail at the dam significantly damaged. The incident remains under investigation.

8:21 a.m. — A vehicle in a Cottage Street home driveway was entered sometime overnight and items were stolen, according to police. The incident remains under investigation.

10:04 a.m. — Police are investigating damage to detour signs which had been placed on Route 25 and Green Street.

1:40 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a vehicle hitting a tree on Route 111 near Barn Hill Road. No injuries were reported.

5:26 p.m. — Police responded to a two-vehicle accident in front of Rite Aid on Route 59. No injuries were reported.
