Our Lady of The Rosary Chapel, 15 Pepper St. (Stepney Green), Monroe. The Fr. Adan Rodriguez, pastor.

Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel is dedicated to preserving the traditional faith, values and liturgical practice of the pre-Vatican II Roman Catholic Church and to providing a haven of sanctuary where men and women of goodwill may grow in love for God and their neighbor. Newcomers are welcome. Do not hesitate to introduce yourself and ask questions or to join us for coffee and refreshments after 10 a.m. Sunday Mass.

The traditional (Tridentine) Latin Mass is offered Sundays at 7 a.m. and 10 a.m., weekdays at 8 a.m., and Saturdays at 7 a.m. Confessions (in English and Spanish) are Sundays at 6:40 a.m. and 9:15 a.m., weekdays at 7:40 a.m., and Saturdays at 6:40 a.m. The Holy Rosary is said on Sundays at 9:40 a.m. and on first Saturdays at 8:40 a.m. Benediction is said after 10 a.m. High Mass on the first Sunday of month.

Monroe Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, 34 Church St., Monroe. The Rev. Jennifer Gingras.

Services are held Sundays at 10 a.m.

The church is also offering “Faith on Tap” group at Veracious on the first Friday of each month from 7:30 to 9 p.m. People gather to sample what Veracious has on tap and discuss something of interest either having to do with religion or with an issue of the day.

Jewish

Congregation Adath Israel, 115 Huntingtown Road, Newtown. Rabbi Barukh Schectman.

Listed below is Congregation Adath Israel of Newtown’s service schedule (note Adath Israel’s summer schedule) for July and August. Friday night services are held every other week. There are no Saturday morning services during July and August, with the exception of Aug. 25 as noted below. Rabbi Barukh Schectman will lead services in August.

  • Friday, July 13, 7:30 p.m. — Kabbalat Shabbat service, sponsored by our Men’s Club and will be led by our Education Chair David Smith.
  • Friday, July 27, 7:30 p.m. — Kabbalat Shabbat service, sponsored by our Sisterhood and led by Bonnie Goldstein.
  • Friday, Aug. 10, 7:30 p.m. — Kabbalat Shabbat service, led by Rabbi Schectman.
  • Friday, Aug. 24, 7:30 p.m. — Kabbalat Shabbat service, co-led by Rabbi Schectman and Joshua Rosen, in honor of his Bar Mitzvah on Saturday.
  • Saturday, Aug. 25, 930 a.m. — Shabbat service, Joshua Rosen will be called to the Torah as a Bar Mitzvah and will co-lead the service with Rabbi Schectman — Parsha is Ki Teitzei.

Lutheran

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 466 Elm St., Monroe. The Rev. Douglas Ryniewicz.

Regular services are Sundays at 8 and 10:30 a.m. and twice a month the church has a Meditative Worship Service at 5:30 p.m. Sunday School and Confirmation classes are on Sundays at 9:15 a.m.

The bell choir and choir rehearse every Thursday at 6:45 and 7:30 p.m., respectively. There is also a quilting group that meets twice a month, and a book club that meets once a month.

Methodist

United Methodist Church of Monroe, 515 Cutlers Farm Road, Monroe. The Rev. Mark T. Allen.

Regular services are Sundays at 10 a.m. Communion is served on the first Sunday of the month. Infant and toddler care are available. Fellowship time after service includes coffee, snacks, and conversation. Sunday School, pre-K through high school, meets Sundays at 10:15 a.m., September through June.
