Monroe police log: July 20-29

The Monroe Police Department responded to 29 alarms, 27 medical emergencies and three unknown 911 call between July 20 to 29.

Friday, July 20

6:23 a.m. — Police responded to a two-vehicle accident on Route 25. No injuries were reported.

12:03 p.m. — A resident reported that a black bear damaged a fence and bird feeder at a Riding Ridge Road home. The report was referred to the animal control officer.

2:05 p.m. — Police responded to a two-vehicle accident on Route 25. No injuries were reported.

5:57 p.m. — Police responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 34 and Route 111. No injuries were reported.

8:52 p.m. — Police responded to a two-vehicle accident, in which minor injuries were reported, at Route 25 and Pepper Street. Police also reported there was a minor fluid spill.

Saturday, July 21

10:45 a.m. — A resident reported observing a black bear on his Pamela Drive property about six hours earlier. The report was referred to the animal control officer.

3:01 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a vehicle striking a tree on Moose Hill Road. No injuries were reported.

6:21 p.m. — A resident reported observing a black bear crossing Route 111 westbound before running into the nearby woods. The report was referred to the animal control officer.

9:24 p.m. — Joseph Costello, 48, of Pastors Walk, was arrested after an argument with his ex-wife earlier in the evening in the driveway of her residence. Costello was charged with disorderly conduct. He posted a $500 bond and was scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Monday, July 23.

Sunday, July 22

8:08 a.m. — Police responded to a one-vehicle accident on Route 34 at the Oxford town line. No injuries were reported.

2:48 p.m. — Police responded to a two-vehicle accident on Route 25, near The Tint Man. No injuries were reported.

10:51 p.m. — A tree branch fell onto a vehicle on Osborn Lane, according to police. No injuries were reported.

Monday, July 23

12:04 p.m. — A Wood Acres Lane resident reports that medication was stolen from the home. Police are investigating the incident.

12:09 p.m. — Police responded to a one-vehicle accident on Route 34 at the Stevenson Dam. No injuries were reported.

Tuesday, July 24

12:25 p.m. — Police responded to a two-vehicle accident on Route 25 near Knollwood Street. No injuries were reported.

12:55 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a vehicle striking a telephone pole on Pepper Street near Jockey Hollow Road. No injuries were reported.

1:09 p.m. — Police responded to a two-vehicle accident on Route 25. No injuries were reported.

7:26 p.m. — Laura Ann Kemp, 27, of Stamford, was arrested on a narcotics charge after being stopped on Route 25. Kemp was charged with sale of controlled substance and possession of narcotics. She posted a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Aug. 2.

Wednesday, July 25

7:33 a.m. — Police responded to a two-vehicle accident on Hattertown Road and Judd Road. No injuries were reported.

8:23 a.m. — Police responded to a two-vehicle accident on Route 25. No injuries were reported.

4:49 p.m. — Police responded to a two-vehicle accident on Elm Street. No injuries were reported.

5:28 p.m. — A resident reported observing what he thought was a mountain lion walking through his backyard on Pilgrim Lane. The report was referred to the animal control officer.

Thursday, July 26

1:03 p.m. — Police responded to a two-vehicle accident on Route 111. No injuries were reported.

4:46 p.m. — A bobcat was reportedly observed in the backyard of a Great Hollow Drive home. The report was referred to the animal control officer.

9:55 p.m. — Raymond P. Blanar, 36, of Wingdale, N.Y., faces a host of charges after being stopped by officers on Route 25. Blanar was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol/drugs and failure to drive in proper lane. He posted a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Aug. 6.

Friday, July 27

6:53 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a vehicle striking a pole on Jockey Hollow Road. Police said the driver was injured and transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital.

11:52 p.m. — Police responded to a two-vehicle accident on Route 111 and Cross Hill Road. Minor injuries were reported, and police said the roadway was closed in both directions as the accident scene was cleared.

Saturday, July 28

10:26 a.m. — Police responded to a two-vehicle accident on Route 111 and Purdy Hill Road. Minor injuries were reported.

11:07 a.m. — Police responded to a two-vehicle accident in the parking lot at Last Drop Coffee Shop off Route 25. No injuries were reported.

11:28 a.m. — Police arrested Wesley Steinfeld, 31, of Newtown, after he was found unconscious in his vehicle, which was parked in front of Havana Cigar, off Route 25. Steinfeld was arrested for possession of a controlled substance (less than ½ ounce cannabis-type substance) and possession of drug paraphernalia. Steinfeld posted a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Aug. 7.

12:09 p.m. — Police responded to a two-vehicle accident in the parking lot at Stop & Shop off Route 111. No injuries were reported.

6:41 p.m. — An Old Zoar Road resident reported observing a black bear on her back porch. The report was referred to the animal control officer.
