Weather concerns postpone major Rt. 25 road work

In what has become a regular occurrence, the state Department of Transportation (DOT) has postponed road work along Route 25 — which would have forced the road’s closure from Brook Street to Knollwood Avenue all weekend — because of concerns over inclement weather predicted for Sunday.

The state DOT has stated that, weather permitting, this section of Route 25 will be closed beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14, through 6 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 17. The closure is so workers can replace two culverts and raise the roadway along that stretch. The work zone will extend through the shopping plaza south of Knollwood Avenue, with alternating traffic on Route 25.

While traffic will be detoured onto Pepper Street and Old Newtown Road, truck traffic will not be permitted on local roads and instead be detoured to routes 111 and 34. This is the first of three weekend closures planned this year, but those additional dates have not been finalized.

First Selectman Ken Kellogg said that while the closure is necessary, access to all businesses in that area will remain available during the road closure.
