Youth football: Monroe Lions remain unbeaten

The Monroe Lions sixth grade team remained perfect after defeating Clinton 39-6 Sunday at Wolfe Park.

The team was led defensively by Sebastian Nicholas and Nick Saraco up front and by Christian Bouton and Elijah Belizor from the linebacker position. Each recorded at least two tackles behind the Clinton line of scrimmage. Ryan Putnam and AJ Cavanaugh each recovered a fumble to help the Lions in a dominant defensive performance in which they were unscored upon. Clinton’s lone score came on a broken play kickoff.

On the offensive side of the ball, Sal Klittnick had two critical blocks to help spring big plays and David Marciano and Matt Falcone protected the quarterback from the tackle position. Bouton and Belizor each shined on offense as well, as they rushed for and caught touchdown passes.

Max Viglione sparked the offense with three rushes for 51 yards and two receptions for 36 yards and a touchdown. Aidan Tiberio also contributed with a big 14-yard catch and run in the third quarter. Quarterback Jason Pagano had another big game in the air and on the ground with four rushes for 57 yards and a touchdown while also completing 8-of-13 passes for 139 yards, three touchdowns and an interception.

The Lions (3-0) look to keep their streak alive this Sunday when they will face the 2-1 Guilford Indians at 1 p.m. Guilford High School.
