EDC back at full strength

Town officials acted quickly in bringing the Economic Development Commission back to a full complement.

Only days after three members — Chair Donna Verdisco, Susan Christiano and Michael Benedetto — resigned their seats, Town Council Wednesday approved the appointments of Republican Town Committee nominees Ray Giovanni, Nicole Lupo and Mike Vitello to fill the vacancies.

Lupo comes from the Board of Ethics, while Vitello has spent years in the construction business. Giovanni joins the commission as also president of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce. Verdisco was chair when the commission joined forces with the chamber, under Giovanni’s guidance, to create the grand opening ribbon cutting events.

Giovanni, a 25-year Monroe resident, works at Union Savings Bank in Monroe, where he has been employed for more than 30 years. Lupo has lived in Monroe for 14 years and presently works for Connecticare. Vitello has lived in Monroe for 60 years and is a self-employed construction consultant. Vitello presently serves on the EMS Building Committee.
