Latest Route 25 closure begins tonight

The weather appears to be holding out, meaning the state Department of Transportation (DOT) will close Route 25 — from Brook Street to Knollwood Avenue — beginning tonight, Friday, Sept. 14, at 8 p.m. through 6 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 17. This is the second of three such closures as workers replace two culverts and raise the roadway along that stretch.

The work zone will extend through the shopping plaza south of Knollwood Avenue, with alternating traffic on Route 25. While traffic will be detoured onto Pepper Street and Old Newtown Road, truck traffic will not be permitted on local roads and instead be detoured to routes 111 and 34. This is the first of three weekend closures planned this year, but those additional dates have not been finalized.

First Selectman Ken Kellogg said that while the closure is necessary, access to all businesses in that area will remain available during the road closure.
