The Great Monroe Rock Search is on

From Wolfe Park, to the Monroe town green, to Webb Mountain Park and at supporting retailers, families are reporting finding “painted treasures” sporting the hashtag #MonroeCTPlay. What’s this all about? They’re all participating in a town wide game of hide-and-seek called The Great Monroe Rock Search.

Rocks will be collected at Party in the Park — Monroe Playground Foundation’s (MPF) kickoff fundraising event to be held on Sept. 23 from noon to 4 p.m. at Wolfe Park.

“Families are encouraged to post selfies of their finds — including the hashtag #MonroeCTPlay on MPF’s Facebook page, — where treasure-hunters can also keep track the many hot-spots for finding rocks,” said MPF board member Mike Ganino.

The rocks, painted at Monroe Farmers Market in August raised more than $800 toward MPF’s goal of $300,000 for the Kids Kreation Rebuilding Project. Painted by area children and local artists, the rocks will become part of community-created mosaic. So not only do kids have fun searching for rocks, their rocks become part of Monroe history and a permanent part of the new Kids Kreation playground. Rocks for the event have been provided by a donation from Pond Spring Nursery.

The Great Monroe Rock Search is a community engagement effort leading up to Monroe Playground Foundation’s Party-in-the-Park which offers a full day of family-fun, food and music on Sunday, Sept. 23, at Wolfe Park. Activities include mini golf for $5, $1 fun-tickets for bounce houses, games, face painting, and more. An economical $15  bracelet is available for one round of mini-golf and unlimited play. Food is available from DrewBaQ, Vazzy’s Pizza Wagon, Fryborg, Micalizzi’s and Little Kernel’s. A DJ will be spinning the kids’ favorite music all afternoon.
