Masuk High’s field hockey team scored twice in the first half and held off host Joel Barlow of Redding 2-1 in a South-West Conference field hockey game on Thursday night.

Lydia Aguilar, assisted by Sarah Schultz, opened the scoring 4:10 into the contest, and Aguilar returned the favor, setting up Schultz 8:01 later.

Barlow scored in the second half but couldn’t get even thanks to strong defensive play by the Panthers.

Gretchen Bunovsky broke up plays and blocked shots off penalty corners, and Meghan Braiewa, Molly Carriero and Jess Sokai were among the Panthers to deny the Faclons in front of Masuk goaltender Lauren Sinski (three saves).

Masuk generated nine penalty corners and Barlow had four.
