Community briefs: RTC food drive Sunday

RTC to hold food drive Oct. 14

The Monroe Republican Town Committee will be holding a food drive at Stop n Shop, 470 Monroe Turnpike, on Sunday, Oct. 14, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. outside the store exits. Needed are non-perishable food items (canned soup, canned vegetables, peanut butter, jelly, tuna fish, pasta, coffee, cereal, tea) as well as toilet paper, towels, toothpaste, toothbrushes, other toiletries, personal hygiene items and soap. Cash donations will also be accepted. All donations go to the Monroe Food Pantry.

Annual Halloween costume drive Oct. 13

The Monroe Women’s Club will be holding its annual Halloween costume drive on Oct. 13 from 9 a.m. to noon at Union Savings Bank parking lot. Gently used and new costumes as well as bagged candy will be collected and donated to Monroe and area social services. St. Stephen Church hosting vendor sale

The Women of St. Stephen parish in Trumbull are sponsoring an outside vendors tag sale on the church grounds at 6948 Main St. on Oct. 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will be rain or shine, and vendors are to provide their own table. Spaces are $25 each. Call Debbie Heim at 203-268-1072 for reservations or information.

Recycle motor oil, antifreeze, car batteries

On the second Saturday of every month, Monroe residents may drop off used motor oil (and filters), vehicle batteries and anti-freeze free of charge at the Town Garage, 447 Purdy Hill Road, from 8 to 11:45 a.m. Proof of residency is required. The 2018 schedule is Saturdays — Oct. 13, Nov. 10 and Dec. 8.
