Many area departments responded, including Oxford and Southbury, and Route 34 was closed at Route 111 for a few hours.

“Around 3:35 Monroe and Stevenson were called to assist,” wrote Kevin Catalano, spokesman for Monroe VFD. “Stevenson and Monroe each provided their tanker trucks to the scene as there were no fire hydrants available. Stevenson also provided an engine that was stationed at the Lake Zoar boat ramp to draft water from the Lake and fill tanker trucks after they dropped their water loads at the fire scene.

“Stepney fire department provided an engine to cover Newtown in case of another fire call. The Monroe tanker trucks cleared the scene around 5:30 p.m. ”
